Greetings and Salutations,
My name is Tatia Basilaia. I’m 27 years old, and I’m a new volunteer from Georgia. I am spending January in the beautiful city of Bratislava, and from February onwards in a magical small town called Dolny Kubin, which reminds me so much of my beloved Georgia.
I lived three years in Prague, where I received my M.A. in philosophy, politics, and economics (PPE). I also attended various interesting workshops, summer school programs, and conferences.
If you asked my friends to describe me, they would say I’m a realistic person who loves philosophy.
In my daily life, I try to follow the idea once expressed by John C. Maxwell – “Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn.“
Besides that, I enjoy many other fun hobbies and activities, such as photography, reading books, social media marketing, creative posting/video making, traveling, and hiking.
Why did I choose to be an ESC volunteer?
Professors at Harvard University have found that volunteering helps reduce stress, improves the immune system, and releases the “happiness hormone,” endorphins. When these hormones are released, they give us a good feeling as a reward for helping others. As children, we all dream of doing something important in life. Many of us want to take part in activities that are beneficial to others.
Volunteering for me is just that – an opportunity to have an interesting and meaningful life. Starting the New Year as a volunteer is a fascinating and enriching life experience. I’m also excited to share my experience and skills with others, gain new skills and knowledge, discover new places, and meet interesting people.
In conclusion, volunteering is as helpful for you as it is for the people you are assisting. It can do the following for you:
- Help you be physically and mentally active, especially during the pandemic time
- Provide a sense of purpose and often teach new and valuable skills.
- Open pathways in life to meet new people and build communities
- Boost your own confidence as a helpful figure in someone else’s life
